The Nutcracker is an 1892 two-act ballet with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The plot is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King". The ballet is set on Christmas Eve, where family and friends have gathered in the parlor to decorate the beautiful Christmas tree in preparation for the party. A little girl named Clara is given a wooden nutcracker and a magical journey full of fun, adventure and beautiful dance ensues. Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" is perhaps not only the composer's most famous work but also one of the most famous ballets of all time. "The Nutcracker" is often performed during the Christmas season due to its content, and many families make it an annual tradition to attend a performance.
