1. The Mocha House
Warren, Ohio
This coffee house has been a Warren staple since it opened its doors in 1992. Not only do they serve wonderful coffee, but they also have a seductive display of delectable pastries and desserts – it’s hard to leave without buying an unanticipated treat!
Their Carmel Bliss (white cocoa with espresso and caramel) tastes like the name implies – pure bliss. Its comfortable atmosphere contributes to the fact that the Mocha House is not only open for breakfast and lunch but also dinner… or that evening coffee and dessert get-together with a friend!

2. Good Intentions Market & Café
Kinsman, Ohio
The building, erected around 1870 in Kinsman, Ohio, was recently renovated to a rustic-chic multiple purpose space! It’s a local, fresh market & café, which also sells unique retail items. The owners of Good Intentions also have a small family farm called Red Basket Farm, which specializes in using natural methods to produce the best-tasting vegetables. A perfect opportunity to do some local shopping!
So whether you’re picking up a salad at their grab-n-go section or you’re ordering a quinoa bowl with veggies, mixed greens, chickpeas, and avocado – you know you’re eating clean with fresh, local ingredients.

3. McDivitt Family Maple Cafe
Southington, Ohio
I pulled into this unassuming café located in a small building sandwiched between an auto body shop and a photography studio. Initially, I ordered lunch to-go (which was delicious by the way). Chicken salad with lots of chicken that included slices of grapes, which was served on top of a bed of peppery arugula on a sweet and savory croissant – all homemade! Yummy!
But that’s not all - my lunch also came with a little serving of yogurt with granola and fresh fruit and a chocolate chip cookie! Then I spotted the coffee, as well as a caramel apple cinnamon roll for tomorrow’s breakfast. I had to get out of there before their fresh-made scones started calling my name, but not before I picked up some of McDivitt’s maple syrup!

4. Market House Caffe
Warren, Ohio
The rustic enriched style of this incredible local coffee shop would make Joanna Gaines envious! The distressed white brick fireplaces, subway tiles, black wrought iron fixtures, distressed wood - let’s be honest, they had me at chalk drawings! Ok enough HGTV, but really, you walk in and you think “I should have brought my book.” Or “I should have packed my laptop!” because you really don’t want to leave.
They have wonderful coffee and pastry options and the folks there are super friendly in explaining what’s what and giving recommendations. The “Jar Bar” has yogurts, granola, and fruit choices along with overnight oats.

Their motto – caffeinating one person at a time! This cute spot is a great place with free Wi-Fi where you can enjoy a sandwich, salad, or fresh-baked muffin, but not only does this super friendly coffee shop have a large variety of coffee and pastry choices, but they also have gelato! Flavors like chocolate hazelnut and sea salt caramel will have you coming back for more!

6. Daily Grind
Giard, Ohio
This locally owned café in Girard, Ohio, not only has great coffee and a full line of custom-made specialty drinks, but they also serve muffins, smoothies, protein shakes, brownies, cheesecakes, breakfast, and lunch! Their staff was extremely helpful in offering me milk alternatives for my cafe mocha and giving recommendations on some yummy muffins I picked up to-go! Delicious, friendly, and affordable – the perfect trifecta to start any morning!

7. Nova Coffee Co.
Warren, Ohio
This cool café offers its visitors breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. The tin ceiling, exposed brick, and subway tiles lend to its sleek and inviting atmosphere. Offering hand poured espresso drinks to cold brews and even house-made lemonades, this Ohio coffee shop on Courthouse Square in Downtown Warren is a must stop.
The Sweet Home Avocado Toast (Fife toast, avocado, seasoned egg, red pepper flakes, goat cheese) is my favorite, and don’t forget to grab one (or more) of their fresh-made cake donuts with one-of-a-kind flavor concoctions.

Coffee for thought: I love coffee. It’s the first thing I want when I wake up in the morning, but I’m not that adventurous. I’m also not a Starbucks gal, why? To be honest, because sometimes I don’t know what I want, and frankly I don’t understand that if I want a small coffee, I need to order a “Tall.” Then I get stage fright and I order something basic.
I get it though, once you get the lingo down, it’s great! But for me…. sometimes I just need a smile, some patience, and direction from my barista without judgment. Maybe because the location of Trumbull County (midway between Cleveland & Pittsburgh) lends a smaller town feel, and perhaps they hold true to family values and the power of kindness. Every cafeshop I went to the barista was extremely nice and patient. They offered recommendations for my lactose allergy and explained what the menu items were, not only with humility but with pride.
So as I’m sipping my chai tea latte with oat milk – my hat goes off to you, the baristas of Trumbull County for expanding my coffee palate! Trumbull County is home to some of the best coffee shops in Ohio.
